My vacation with Agony

A few weeks ago I spent the weekend with my brother Agony (aka Chris) at the cottage in Traverse City.  Uncle Agony played with the girls and Becky's kids for hours...We took the girls cherry picking, swimming, boating and to the beach.  Mostly, though, we just ate ice cream at Moomers, and played in the water at the cottage.  A perfect Michigan weekend (seeing as we get about 2 good weekends a year)

July 4th, Traverse City, Michigan

Took the girls up to our cottage in northern Michigan for the 4th of July.  Yes, I know, I am terribly late posting these photos.  You would have thought digital photos would be quicker to process, but it seems to take me much longer to get them downloaded from my camera and posted to the interweb.

For the last few years they've shot fireworks over Long Lake, so we can stand on the beach and watch them.  The girls didn't get as scared of the big fireworks as I thought they would.  It's great to be able to sit and watch the show, and then walk into right into the house!

The cherry festival was also the same weekend, so we took the girls cherry picking and to the carousel in downtown traverse city.  Libby named all the horses (Her's was named Cimeron -- the Indian horse), Jasmine's was probably named Shasta (the snow dog)

Spring Break in Arizonia 2008

Sedona, Arizona

Sedona at sunset

We just came back from a vacation in "Arizonia" as Libby would say.  We went to visit Agony in Phoenix, and John who lives in Sedona.  While in Sedona John took us on some four-wheel roads that were pretty bumpy.  Libby was scared to death that we wouldn't make it back down, but Jasmine just kept giggling like crazy ("Daddy, the road is all crazy...") -- and it was pretty crazy driving over 3-4 foot boulders and craters.  We were covered in the red rock dust.  The girls did okay hiking and they loved to throw rocks into river.  We drove them up to see snow in the mountains, but they quickly tired of that and wanted to go back to the desert.  After seeing how much fun they had throwing the rocks in the river, we took them up to Oak Creek Canyon, where they could climb on the rocks all day long.  We had a picnic (Libby: Chetos and Chippies, Jasmine: Carrots and Meat).  Oak Creek canyon has been the same for decades, I remember when Dad took us there when I was 10

-- funny how for generations the same things are interesting...

I think the highlight of the trip for Libby was to go to the "Indian Cowboy Ranch" and ride "Joe the Horse"  Jasmine still wants to be a doggy dentists when she grows up, but Libby is convinced that she will be a cowgirl and ride horses all day (Which, she assures me, is much better than riding airplanes every day like Daddy).

In Phoenix we stayed at a water park, so the girls were able to go swimming everyday -- by the end of the week they had enough swimming, and just wanted to go home, so they could see their toys.

Jasmine and Libby at Thanksgiving play

This has been sitting on my hard drive for awhile, I just found it while trying to free up some space.  Jasmine and Libby had a thanksgiving play at school, they sang these songs for months...

Girls first time snow skiing

We took the girls snow skiing last weekend in Northern Michigan.  Jasmine was SO excited, she could hardly stand it.  Libby was excited also, but I don't think she understood that snow skiing meant you had to be outside, in the snow (she doesn't really care for snow).  Of course, when we finally got them into their skis and to the ski school, Jasmine did not look happy -- I don't think that frown ever left her face!  Libby went down the hill once, and then just wanted to ski with her family (Mom, Dad, sister, imaginary brother).   After her one time down the hill, she cried so much the instructor took her inside to color.  Jasmine did much better, up and down a few times with the teacher.  They both liked the chair lift ("I flying, Daddy"), and didn't fall that often.  Mostly they liked the swimming pool in the hotel, although it was much to cold to swim (even indoor, it wasn't heated very warm).

Libby can't wait to go down the hill.
The next day, we went back to the ski hill (Nubs Nob, kids ski free) but the weather was terrible.  It was just raining ice -- you'd ride the chair lift to the the top, and when you got off, the icicles would fall off your gloves.  Jasmine wanted to go again and again though, even though all the gloves and hats were soaking wet.  Libby went once, and then wanted to go inside for marshmallow chocolate (hot coco).  Jasmine kept going until we were the last few on the hill.  She had a great time, and I'm sure we'll get skis to take them again.
I'll post the video of Jasmine skiing in a few days, it's still on my camera!
More pictures from the trip, after the link....
